Chapter Eleven

Truth processed this would be a challenging mission. That thrilled him. The high probability they would die kept him focused. His female’s lifespan was at risk.

He projected her brother would be damaged. The Humanoid Alliance enjoyed torturing beings. While Truth was under their control, they had tormented him and his brethren in every way a male could be tormented.

Being a prince wouldn’t spare his female’s brother. The Humanoid Alliance would be more tempted to break him into tiny pieces physically and emotionally due to his role. It would give those sadistic humans pleasure.

That the brother would be sharing the same chamber as a Palavian, however, was a prospect Truth hadn’t contemplated. The prince had somehow survived that arrangement. That was even more improbable.

Palavians loved violence and killing. They had bad tempers and flying fists, and they didn’t thrive well in small spaces.

Yet the Palavian must have suppressed his anger and his brutish tendencies with the smaller, frailer prince. The near-starved human lived.

Bootheels rang against the tiled floor. Valentin and Claude had finally arrived.

Claude huffed and puffed. His body armor had been unfastened down to his knees, revealing a thin black cloth covering no cyborgs wore under their protective garments. His face was red and wet with sweat.

Valentin was equally damp and wheezed slightly, clutching his side.

But they were both otherwise undamaged and their assistance might be required.

Truth pointed to Claude, then to Valentin, pointed at his own eyes, then gestured to the left and to the right, along the hallway. The males were to guard it.

They nodded, signaling they understood.

Truth waved his female back from the door.

She moved out of harm’s way, then looked to him for more instructions, her eyes bright with interest. All of her glowed, and if they hadn’t been in grave danger, he would have licked her from the top of her forehead to the tips of her toes.

That ravishment would have to wait. They had a prince to rescue.

Truth tapped his body armor-clad chest with his right index finger and then pointed to the door. The Palavian was thin but he could be dangerous. Truth had seen more-severely-damaged beings kill perceived threats.

He would enter the space first.

His female’s regal head dipped. Her concerned expression relayed she was taking the situation a bit too seriously for his liking.

Truth winked at her, was rewarded with a small smile. Satisfied he’d eased some of her fears, he concentrated on his next task, accessing the control panel.

The humans had done their best to secure the prison ship’s systems, but it wasn’t sufficient to block his access. He was a cyborg and easily overrode their security.

The doors slid open. He quickly repositioned himself, placing his form directly in front of his female’s, and he drew his guns.

“Cyborg.” The Palavian roared. The painfully thin male pushed his unlikely prize, the prince, behind him and spread all four of his arms. His fingers folded into fists.

Truth waited for the male to attack, to move away from the prince. His female’s brother was exceedingly frail.
